Contribution activity
for the community

We have engaged in a wide range of social contribution activities based on our workplaces across the country.

Donation of 700 Million KRW to the Community Chest of Korea in 2024

In January 2024, KCC donated 7 billion KRW to the Community Chest of Korea.

We delivered the divided amounts of donations to the branches of the Community Chest of Korea where our major workplaces are located including Ulsan, Jeonbuk, and Chungnam to fulfill corporate social responsibility so that our support could be extended to all of those in need.

The donations would be delivered and deposited again to each local government to be used in supporting the living and medical costs for the low-income households and neighbors, having suffered from economic difficulties. With the campaign, we continue to make efforts with the local governments and Community Chest of Korea so that the donations can be used effectively, thereby forming a society where people are considerate of others.

Sustainable Environmental Improvement of Forest Experience Centers for Children with the Korea Future Environment Association (KFEA)

KCC and the Korea Future Environment Association (KFEA) have recently renovated Forest Experience Centers for Children at Umyeonsan Mountain in Seocho-gu and Cheonglyongsan Mountain in Gwanak-gu as part of the "Supro Miraero" campaign. By May 2024, they will have refurbished four Forest Experience Centers for Children, including Haechansol in Gangnam-gu and Jangji Park in Songpa-gu, ensuring children can use these facilities safely for a longer period.

KCC has been collaborating with the Korea Future Environment Association for three years on the "Supro Miraero" campaign, dedicating efforts to creating a brighter future through forests. "Supro Miraero" is an ESG initiative that promotes carbon neutrality by preserving forests. The campaign aims to conserve nature through forest restoration and protection while cultivating the future together with nature by raising awareness about forests.

The "Supro Miraero" campaign began in 2022 with the planting of 1,000 trees in Goseong-gun to restore trees lost in a fire. The following year, they continued forest cultivation with another tree-planting event in Goseong-gun. Since then, they have continued activities to promote the importance of forests, such as eco-plogging on the Uiryeonggil Trail at Bukhansan Mountain. Starting in 2024, they have been renovating Forest Experience Centers for Children so that children, who are the leaders of the future, can enjoy forests healthily while developing creativity and social skills.

Younghye Scholarship Awarded to Top-Scoring Incoming Students at Korean Minjok Leadership Academy

The top five highest-scoring incoming students at Korean Minjok Leadership Academy have been awarded the full-tuition Younghye Scholarship for three years. The Younghye (永慧) Scholarship was established in accordance with the wishes of the late Honorary Chairman Chung Sang-yung, who strongly advocated the philosophy of Injaeboguk—nurturing talent to contribute to the nation. This scholarship fund was created using a 10 billion KRW legacy left by the Honorary Chairman. In addition, KCC Chairman Chung Mong-jin has personally contributed 3 billion KRW to establish the Sunhye (善慧) Scholarship, which aims to foster global talent. This scholarship helps reduce students’ financial burdens and enables them to focus solely on their studies.

Beyond scholarship support, KCC collaborates with Korean Minjok Leadership Academy to cultivate future leaders through various educational programs, including eco-friendly paint research experiences and mentoring by PhD researchers. Furthermore, funds from the Honorary Chairman’s legacy have been used to renovate campus facilities, including dormitories, classrooms, the auditorium, and the gymnasium.

Proactive Cool Roof Project Collaboration with KIRA Seoul

KCC and KIRA Seoul have applied heat-reflective paint to rooftops of senior centers, daycare centers, and other facilities vulnerable to heat waves as part of the "2024 Creating Cool Rooftops with Architects (Cool Roof Support Project)". KCC provided paint and technical painting support at work sites, while KIRA Seoul collaborated by selecting locations needing cool roof support and deploying painting personnel.

The Cool Roof Support Project is a social contribution activity that helps combat summer heat waves by applying heat-reflective paint that reflects solar heat, reducing roof surface and indoor temperatures while simultaneously decreasing energy needed for cooling.

Learning from the unusually hot summer, KCC and KIRA Seoul have proactively prepared for next year's heat waves by selecting locations needing cool roof construction in advance. This ensures the cool roof effects of reducing indoor temperatures and saving energy can be achieved regardless of when the hot weather begins. Although heat-reflective paint is typically applied during spring, they implemented this project early to prevent unexpected situations where installation might be delayed due to rain or other factors, potentially pushing construction until after early heat waves have already begun.

KCC Jeonju Plant Supports Housing Environment Improvement Project in Collaboration with the Local Community

KCC Jeonju Plant has signed a business agreement with Wanju-gun, Jeonbuk-do for the "Creating Warm Homes with Supro" project. Through this agreement, KCC plans to contribute to improving the housing environment of economically disadvantaged families in the local community by utilizing the 50 million won donation made to the Jeonbuk Community Chest of Korea earlier this year.

"Creating Warm Homes with Supro," which uses KCC construction materials to improve living environments, is an ESG activity that embodies the Jeonju plant's commitment to housing environment improvement, where KCC's eco-friendly water-based paint "Supro" is produced.

KCC is actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility as part of ESG management. In particular, the company continues to engage in "business-linked" social contribution activities. The MOU with Wanju-gun is part of these social contribution efforts, aimed at helping local residents improve their quality of life by providing safe and comfortable living environments.

KCC Signs 'Good Cool Roof' MOU with Gwangju City Seogu Office

"KCC has lent its strength to lower indoor temperatures at welfare facilities ahead of the expected heat this summer. KCC and Gwangju Metropolitan City's Seogu Office have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a public-private partnership social contribution project called 'Good Cool Roof,' which aims to lower temperatures at welfare institutions while raising warmth and support.

The 'Good Cool Roof' project involves coating roofs with heat-reflective paint to lower indoor temperatures at community welfare facilities during the hot summer months, resulting in reduced energy consumption for cooling. This represents a meaningful public-private partnership social contribution project.
Heat-reflective paint is a functional paint that reflects infrared sunlight, reducing the heat energy directly absorbed by the roof and thereby decreasing heat transfer to the building interior. For this Good Cool Roof project, KCC is providing 'Spotan Topcoat (Energy)' paint, which has obtained performance certification from the American Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC).

In addition to providing heat-reflective paint, KCC employees from the Gwangju region plan to participate in a hands-on social contribution activity after the rainy season ends and before the intense summer heat begins. They will paint facilities used by energy-vulnerable groups as recommended by the Seogu Office.

Yeosu Hope House No. 26 Completed with Sponsorship from KCC Yeocheon Plant

The recipient of Hope House No. 26 is a multicultural family residing in Sora-myeon, consisting of two elementary and middle school siblings, their elderly grandmother, and a total of five family members. Due to the severe aging of their home and lack of maintenance, they faced significant living difficulties, including cold drafts, leaks, and mold, which posed serious health risks. As a result, urgent housing improvements were needed.

To support this effort, KCC Yeocheon Plant allocated 22 million KRW from the 50 million KRW donation made through the Community Chest of Korea (CCK). The funding was used for a comprehensive home renovation, including creating a new room for the children, replacing windows, wallpaper, flooring, the kitchen sink, and bathroom tiles, repainting the interior and exterior walls, and installing new rain gutters. This initiative reflects KCC’s commitment to improving living conditions for vulnerable families and contributing to community welfare through meaningful support.

Housing Improvement Project for Elderly Living Alone and Households with Disabilities in Munmak

KCC Munmak Plant has launched a housing improvement project in collaboration with the Munmak Volunteer Association of the Korean Red Cross-Gangwon Chapter (GW RCY). The project officially commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The Munmak Volunteer Association, which delivers meal boxes twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) to elderly individuals living alone, has firsthand knowledge of their living conditions and financial difficulties. Recognizing the urgent need for housing improvements, the association partnered with the KCC Munmak Plant to initiate this project. The selection of beneficiaries was carried out through recommendations from the Munmak-eup Administrative Welfare Center's welfare team and local village leaders. After conducting on-site assessments, the association’s executives reviewed the cases and selected 50 households as recipients.

In 2024, the project will focus on improving the living conditions of elderly individuals living alone and households with disabilities. For elderly residents, outdated coal boilers will be replaced with gas boilers, ensuring a safer and more efficient heating system. Additionally, kitchen sinks that are too high for individuals with limited mobility will be lowered to allow for easier use. In homes where poor heating efficiency is caused by old wooden window frames, new window installations will be carried out. For households with individuals with disabilities, ramps and safety bars will be installed to improve accessibility, making mobility safer and more comfortable.

We present our remodeling projects for the environment improvement.
